At the Information and Analytical Situation Center of Igor Sikorsky KPI, the latest stage of training for female specialists within the large-scale “She Is a Deminer” program has been successfully completed. This practical workshop is being held for the second time, which attests to the high effectiveness of the chosen training methodology and the critical importance of training qualified personnel for the field of mine action.

Throughout the week, from April 27 to May 1, experts from the National Scientific Center “World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development” shared their experience with the participants, focusing on the integration of modern digital tools into security sector processes.

The “She Is a Deminer” program is implemented by the Association of Deminers of Ukraine, the NGO “Girls,” and BBC Media Action, in partnership with UN Women in Ukraine and in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine, with financial support from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Development of Canada and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia. During the intensive training, GIS Lab Manager Serhiy Hapon provided a detailed overview of the functional capabilities of QGIS and ArcGIS Online software. The program covered the full cycle of working with spatial data, from the technical aspects of processing vector and raster layers to the application of complex analysis algorithms that directly impact the quality of planning and operational decision-making in humanitarian demining.

Particular attention was paid to practical skill development, where participants independently created thematic maps, built spatial databases, and developed analytical solutions for visualizing the results of site surveys. Mastering these tools allows not only for the effective assessment of risks in contaminated areas but also for the creation of reliable geoinformation products, which form the foundation for restoring a safe living environment in Ukraine. The acquired competencies will make a significant contribution to the professional capabilities of specialists and will facilitate the implementation of advanced data processing standards into the daily practice of mine action operations.

The activities of the National Scientific Center “World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development” are not limited to conducting training sessions. The center’s specialists are regular participants in international and national scientific events, providing a high level of expertise within specialized seminars and open lectures. Their professional activities cover a wide range of contemporary scientific fields, including strategic foresight research, the development of remote sensing methodologies, and in-depth analysis of diverse data using the latest artificial intelligence architectures. This systematic work allows the center to remain a platform for knowledge exchange and the implementation of innovations in critically important areas of the state’s security development.
