In late fall, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute hosted the First Scientific and Practical Conference of FMF Master’s Students, dedicated to the results of thesis research conducted by master’s degree candidates.

The event was the first joint conference for master’s students in physics and mathematics in a long time and was aimed at creating an open academic space for the presentation of their own research results, professional discussion, and interdisciplinary dialogue. The conference was held remotely and brought together students, research advisors, and faculty members from various departments of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics.

During the section sessions, master’s students presented research results on the modeling of physical processes, condensed matter magnetism, nanomaterials, biomedical applications of physics, thermal imaging technologies, financial mathematics, as well as on teaching methodologies for natural science disciplines. The topics of the presentations demonstrated the relevance of the faculty’s research areas and the high level of training among young researchers.

"The conference is dedicated specifically to the research results of master’s students. And this is no coincidence. After all, the master’s program is the stage when a student first enters the world of real scientific work: formulates their own topic, selects methods, works with experiments or complex mathematical models, and is responsible for the novelty and quality of the results. Master’s students are our immediate scientific future, the pool from which doctoral students, young faculty members, and researchers emerge. “It is their work that best demonstrates the faculty’s potential and the direction of its development,” noted Daria Savchenko, Chair of the conference organizing committee, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Head of the Department of General Physics and Modeling of Physical Processes at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics.

During the conference, FMF master’s students had the opportunity to present their research, receive professional feedback from faculty and advisors, and participate in academic discussions. An electronic proceedings volume was compiled following the conference, containing the abstracts of the master’s students’ presentations.

The organizers emphasize that holding the 1st Scientific and Practical Conference of FMF Master’s Students marks the beginning of a new annual tradition for the faculty, aimed at supporting student research, building a pool of future researchers, and strengthening the research potential of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in the natural sciences and mathematics.
