Kyiv Consulting, a global business consultancy and a subsidiary of BDO in Germany, has published a new strategic Point-of-View report examining the transition from 5G-Advanced to 6G and the rapidly evolving dynamics of the global telecom ecosystem. The research explores how technological leadership in 6G will shape national competitiveness, industrial strategy and investment patterns throughout the 2030s.

The Point-of-View report features expert insights from with Prof. Dr Mariia Skulysh, Director of Educational and Research Institute of Telecommunication Systems of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, who contributed to the analysis of market forces, industrial policy, and future network architectures. According to the report, global competition in 6G is already underway, with Tier 1 actors such as China, South Korea, the USA, the European Union and Japan aligning research, standards, spectrum, and vendor ecosystems to secure early leadership positions.

The research highlights that while 5G consumer adoption is largely mature, 5G-Advanced now serves as an industrial platform and testbed for early 6G-era services. The report notes that commercial deployment of 6G is expected in the early 2030s, following key milestones in technical standardisation and spectrum harmonisation. The findings also underline the growing geopolitical dimension of telecom infrastructure, with governments integrating 6G roadmaps into broader innovation and industrial strategies.

The full Point-of-View report6G Race Explained: 5G Future, Global Leaders & 2030 Outlook examines the drivers of leadership in 6G, the monetisation challenges facing operators and the role of R&D and vendor ecosystems in shaping value creation.
