This day takes us back to a history in which specific human destinies lie behind every major date. World War II claimed millions of lives, destroyed cities, families, and the future of entire generations. Ukraine paid one of the highest prices for the victory over Nazism.
Among those who lived through this war were Kyiv Polytechnic Institute alumni—students, faculty, researchers, staff, and graduates of KPI. They fought, worked on the home front, developed technical solutions for defense, and held their ground wherever their knowledge, strength, and responsibility were needed.
Today, this memory resonates with particular poignancy. Ukraine is once again fighting for the right to live freely—this time in a war against Russian aggression. And once again, among the defenders of the state are Kyiv Polytechnic Institute alumni, who are defending the country in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, volunteering, working for the front lines, and developing technologies for victory.
Today, the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute community honored the feat of those who defended their homeland by laying flowers at the Monument to the faculty, staff, and students of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute who gave their lives during World War II, and at the Monument to Kyiv Polytechnic students who fell for Ukraine, near the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
Their names will forever remain in our memory and in the history of the university as a testament to courage, responsibility, and the price of freedom. Today, this memory unites those who fought for Ukraine then and those who defend it now.
🇺🇦 Eternal honor to the fallen.
Glory to the defenders of Ukraine of all generations!
