A joint educational project between the Boris Paton State Polytechnic Museum and Antonina Berezovenko, an associate professor in the Department of Ukrainian Language, Literature, and Culture at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, was dedicated to the development and application of museum pedagogy methods during the course "Culture of Oral Professional Speech (Rhetoric)“ by first-year students of the Institute of IPSA, who are majoring in ”Artificial Intelligence."

It should be noted that museum pedagogy is a field of educational activity that transmits cultural experience based on an interdisciplinary and artistic approach through the pedagogical process within a museum environment. The museum helps foster a personal emotional connection to exhibits and creates the appropriate conditions for shaping students’ worldview and creative abilities.

From theory to practice. At Antonina Vitaliivna’s initiative, first-year students (groups KI-51, KI-52, KI-53) of the Institute of IPSA selected a series of exhibits from the museum’s collection to prepare short presentations on them.

Antonina Berezovenko’s goal is to help students master the art of public speaking during the workshop.

“Why a museum?” the reader might ask. The author posed this question to Antonina Berezovenko.

– Antonina Vitaliivna, what was your goal when preparing for this event? And, in general, how often do you manage to apply museum pedagogy in your work?

– I have been working in this department since the day it was founded. Therefore, engaging the student audience with Ukrainian cultural roots has long been part of the educational process. Of course, this also depends on the discipline being taught in this particular case. That is, it could involve other cultural landmarks in Kyiv. But for students who have chosen the “Artificial Intelligence” major, it seemed particularly appropriate to familiarize them with the history of technological development that ultimately led to the emergence of artificial intelligence. And, as we recall, until recently, “intellect” was considered an immanent (inherent to the nature of the object or phenomenon itself, intrinsically belonging to it – ed.) characteristic of a rational human being. The very act of developing a culture of professional oral communication outside the classroom setting is already unconventional.

– How did the students react to this practical session at the museum? Are you satisfied with the first-year students’ work?

– I believe that students are people who are open to everything new and unconventional. This is especially true for students in such a cutting-edge field as artificial intelligence.

I think that for them, what is new is also what is most desirable. That is why they responded with discipline—they prepared for their presentations thoroughly. Consequently, the results pleased me, the student speakers themselves, and the staff of the Boris Paton State Polytechnic Museum. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the Museum’s Director, Ms. Natalia Volodymyrivna Pysarevska, the Administrator, Ms. Larisa Bohdanova, and other museum staff for their warm and sincere welcome of our event’s participants, as well as for their professional insights, which added depth and freshness to the students’ presentations.

The main outcome is the students’ development of skills in competent, persuasive, and eloquent professional speech, their ability to present their thoughts clearly and logically, and their readiness to speak before a large audience without fear (which, as practice shows, is not always an easy task).

In each group, the student jury selected those who took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Everything was fair. I am certainly satisfied with the first-year students’ work—but the final result of their mastery of this course will be revealed during the exam period.

– You are a member of associations of Ukrainians who study the history and culture of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. What is your involvement in the National and International Associations of Ukrainianists? Judging by the list of academic publications posted on social media, it is quite substantial.

– As in any professional association (and I am a member of other professional associations, such as the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies, etc.) – this is, first and foremost, an intellectual exchange with colleagues. Also – participation in and organization of academic events.

– I wish you continued success in the fields of education and research!
