On 31 March 2026, Professor Volodymyr Volodymyrovych Pilinskyi of the Department of Acoustic and Multimedia Electronic Systems, Faculty of Electronics, celebrated his 85th birthday. For more than 65 years, his distinguished life and professional career have been closely connected with Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
From his biography: Volodymyr Volodymyrovych Pilinskyi was born in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) into the family of military engineer Volodymyr Bronislavovych Pilinskyi. He completed his secondary education at Secondary School No. 33 in Kyiv. In 1958, he enrolled in the Faculty of Electric Power Engineering at the Novocherkassk Polytechnic Institute. However, in 1960, his father, Major General Volodymyr Pilinskyi, was appointed Head of the Military Department of the Kyiv Civil Engineering Institute. As a result, Volodymyr Volodymyrovych transferred to Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute to continue his studies in the same field. From that time onward, he became part of the large Kyiv Polytechnic community.
As a student, Pilinskyi was regularly involved in research projects by the leading specialists of the department. He was fascinated by every new challenge and eagerly embraced new knowledge. While still an undergraduate, he worked as an engineer, gaining valuable practical experience for his future career. He was also awarded a merit-based scholarship. In 1963, he graduated from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Electroacoustics, and was assigned to work at the Research Institute of Hydroacoustic Devices. Owing to the department's close collaboration with the institute, the young specialist was invited to remain at the department instead.
In 1968, Volodymyr V. Pilinskyi entered postgraduate studies. His mentor and academic supervisor was Hryhorii S. Veksler, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, and recipient of the USSR State Prize. In 1973, he successfully defended his dissertation in the field of Electronic Engineering and Instrumentation and was awarded the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences (PhD).
Volodymyr Volodymyrovych became actively involved in the educational process. He was invited to join the Department of Motion Picture Engineering as an Assistant Lecturer. He later became a Senior Lecturer and, in 1975, was appointed Associate Professor. In 1991, the Department of Sound Engineering and Information Recording, recognizing his achievements in teaching, curriculum development, and the supervision of three PhD candidates, awarded him the academic title of Professor.
Professor Pilinskyi's research has focused on the development of power electronics and the advancement of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in radio-electronic systems and devices. He is regarded as one of the founders of the scientific school of electromagnetic compatibility in power electronics. The results of his research were applied in the development of power supply systems installed aboard the spacecraft Kosmos-936 and Kosmos-1129.
For a period of time, Professor Pilinskyi also served as Deputy Chair of the Technical Committee for Standardization of Ukraine. He acted as Scientific Supervisor for the development of National Standards of Ukraine harmonized with European and international standards.
In 1979, Volodymyr V. Pilinskyi conducted research in Finland at the University of Oulu and the Tampere University of Technology. He also served on the organizing and program committees of numerous international symposia and conferences, including those held in Wrocław (1990, 1992), Košice (1994, where he also presented research papers), and the Baltic Symposium in Poznań, Poland (2018).
During the 1980s, he served as Head of the Department for Technical Higher Education Institutions within the Educational and Methodological Directorate of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine.
From 2000 to 2002, Professor Pilinskyi was Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Electronics. Between 2007 and 2009, he served as Acting Head of the Department of Sound Engineering and Information Recording at the Faculty of Electronics of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute."
Professor Pilinskyi has always devoted considerable attention to career guidance and outreach for young people. He has served, and continues to serve, as Chair of the Jury for the Information and Tele

Professor Volodymyr Volodymyrovych Pilinskyi has received numerous awards and distinctions, including the Veteran of Labour Medal, the In Commemoration of the 1500th Anniversary of Kyiv Medal, and the honorary titles Excellence in Education of Ukraine, Distinguished Lecturer of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", and For Outstanding Achievements in Work. He has also been recognized with numerous Certificates of Honor and Letters of Appreciation from the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute," the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Borys Paton State Polytechnic Museum, and other institutions. His name is featured in the reference publication Scientists of Ukraine – The Nation's Elite (Vol. VII, 2022).
To this day, Professor Pilinskyi continues to work at the Department of Acoustic and Multimedia Electronic Systems. His career is a remarkable example of lifelong dedication to his chosen profession and unwavering commitment to Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. It was here that he established himself as both a distinguished scientist and an inspiring mentor to many generations of students, devoting his extensive intellectual potential to educating future specialists. Over the course of his academic career, he has supervised five candidates of technical sciences (PhD graduates).
Professor Pilinskyi enjoys the deep respect of both students and colleagues for his professionalism, diligence, integrity, and collegiality.
