‘My path to IT,‘ says the scholarship recipient, “began with the choice of the best technical university - the National Technical University of Ukraine ”Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute’. I adored mathematics and wanted to gain professional knowledge at a university with a strong research base and opportunities for international cooperation.’ And the girl was not mistaken in her choice. ‘Now, as an undergraduate student of the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Science,’ she continues, ’I have many useful educational opportunities related to my speciality or related to it. In the summer, for example, I took part in a summer school for students from the Gdańsk University of Technology, and in the autumn I plan to start studying under the DILLUGIS project at the East Bavarian University of Technology Amberg-Weiden.’ According to the girl, as a result of the online summer school, she gained knowledge of various modern materials and their applications, learned how to conduct experiments and analyse the results, and improved her teamwork skills in a scientific environment. At the University of Bavaria, she plans to study Business Model Innovation and Sensors for Smart Systems. And again, to gain experience in international teamwork, as the programme provides for the implementation of projects in groups.
It is worth adding that the student is also active in public life: since her first year, she has been involved in student government, a member of the KPI Student Council and the Faculty Student Council. Since the start of the full-scale war, the activist has been devoting all her free time to volunteering and engaging her colleagues in it. She had to load/unload and distribute humanitarian aid, master the skill of weaving camouflage nets, and take part in repair work at the regional state administration.
‘It is very valuable,’ says G. Shymanska, “that Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute encourages students” research activities. Teachers of the FIPT always help interested young people develop their scientific interests. I am also proud of the fact that teachers together with students conduct research that can help the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After all, it is always worth remembering thanks to whom we have the opportunity to study, work and simply live.’
