March 26 at the Conference Hall of the Academic Council NTUU "KPI" it was held the International scientific-practical conference "The contribution of science and students in improving energy efficiency and environmental friendliness of ferroalloy production."
The conference was organized by the Ukrainian Association of Producers ferroalloys and other electrometallurgical products (UFPA), the International Congress of ferroalloy INFACON-14, National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine. Organizational support was provided by "Privatbank", the International Committee of ferroalloy, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and Kiev Centre UNIDO.
The purpose of the conference - to activate the participation of young scientists, professionals and students to conduct research in the theory and practice of ferroalloy production. Conference topics included diverse areas such as the theory and practice of ferroalloy production, improvement of equipment for the production of ferroalloys, the main way of energy saving and energy efficiency of ferroalloy production and the like.
This youth conference is held as one of the events of the next International Congress of ferroalloy INFACON-14 (Kiev, June 2015) and by agreement of the International Committee of ferroalloy receives the status of "Youth INFACON-14."
The conference was attended by young scientists, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students who are studying at universities in electrometallurgic specialties in Ukraine and abroad, the guests - colleagues from Slovakia - the specialists OFZ, as well as young professionals Ukrainian and foreign ferroalloy enterprises.
Meeting was chaired by the vice-president of the Ukrainian Association of ferrous metallurgy "Ukrmet" Sergey Grishchenko.
At the opening ceremony the chairman of the organizing committee, the rector of NTUU "KPI" Michael Zgurovsky welcomed the participants. He noted the importance of scientific research and new technologies in the ferroalloy industry as one of the most developed industries in the metallurgical production in Ukraine. The broad involvement of youth in this process is necessary and quite understandable.
It was also read out a greeting from the President of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Boris Paton. Greeting from the “Privatbank” were given by the Officer Director Sergey Kudryavtsev UkrFA. Heads of leading enterprises of the region Pavel Kravchenko (JSC "Zaporozhye Ferroalloy Plant") and Vladimir Kutsin (PJSC "Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant") congratulated the present and focused especially for young people on the activities and achievements of ferroalloy production. The participants were greeted by Dean of the Faculty of Metallurgy NMetAU Lyudmila Kamkina. The report, which was ranked as the base, "Space-planning decisions ferroalloy plants and their classification" was given by the academician of the International Academy of Sciences, General Director of Scientific and Production Company "Topaz Ltd" Vladimir Shevchenko.
Conference was continued by the presentations on scientific developments in the ferroalloy industry NTUU "KPI", experts from the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine, PJSC "Zaporizhia Ferroalloy Plant", LLC "Pobuzhsky ferronickel plant", LLC "Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant". In the second part of the conference the students "KPI" and NMetAU made their presentations. For participants there were also organized trips to LLC "Pobuzhsky ferronickel plant" and Laboratories of Physics and Engineering Faculty of the University.
At the conference, there was the summarizing of the contest for the best youth work in the theory and practice of ferroalloy production. Expert Group together with the Organizing Committee of the competition on the basis of the rating determined 15 winners in the categories "graduate students and young scientists", "factory experts" and "students". The winners will take part in the traditional annual thematic conferences and international UkrFA ferroalloy Congress INFACON-14.
